The Inter-House English Shipwreck Competition for classes IX and X was held on Saturday, 19th July 2025,at the school auditorium. This highly anticipated event brought together creativity, critical thinking and public speaking in a dynamic and engaging format that challenged students to think on their feet and present persuasive arguments. Participants were tasked with a unique and dramatic scenario: a luxurious ship is sinking in the ocean, and there is only one life jacket left. Representing famous corporate legends such as Mr Elon Musk, Mr
Sundar Pichai, Ms Indra Nooyi, Mr Narayana Murthy, Mr Tim Cook, Mr Satya Nadella, Mr Sam Altman and Mr Akio Morita, students had to convince the captain (played by the judges) why they should be the one to survive and carry forward their legacy. Each House was represented by two participants, one from Class IX and one from Class X, who were allotted their personalities through a draw of lots. After delivering their speech, each participant drew a chit to select a judge, who then posed a question based on the presentation. This round tested the participant’s spontaneity, depth of knowledge and ability to defend their argument convincingly. The event was judged by a distinguished panel comprising Mr Dinesh Kumar, Mr Vinayak Mohan, Mr Raza Qasim and Mr Kapil, whose presence added depth and credibility to the competition. Participants
were assessed on four key parameters:
Cogent Arguments (10 marks)
Thematic Connect (10 marks)
Structured Flow of Thoughts (10 marks)
Response to Judges’ Q&A (10 marks)
The competition witnessed powerful performances, thoughtful arguments and passionate delivery. The participants impressed the audience and the judges alike with their clarity, conviction and creative reasoning. After all the presentations, judges Mr Dinesh Kumar and Mr Vinayak Mohan shared their insightful feedback and praised the participants for their research, articulation and confidence. Their valuable comments added a reflective dimension to the event, helping students understand the importance of clarity and persuasion in public speaking. The Inter-House Shipwreck Competition was a resounding success, offering a perfect blend of intellect, drama and oratory skills. It not only encouraged students to think beyond the classroom but also helped them cultivate qualities of leadership, empathy and quick thinking, true to the spirit of holistic education.
