Unearthing the Past: Report on Educational Visit to Rakhigarhi

As part of the Round Square Cultural and Academic Exchange Programme, Mathilde and Layla from Roedean School, Johannesburg, currently hosted by Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hisar, explored India’s vibrant heritage. Accompanied by Ms Indu Sharma they visited the renowned archaeological site of Rakhigarhi on 22nd April 2025. The visit offered valuable insights into one of the largest settlements of the Indus Valley Civilization.

Students explored several key features of the site, including a lapidary workshop, citadel mound, double-story wells, advanced drainage systems, ancient burial sites, and well-preserved pottery. The tour was led by Mr. Vicky Malik and Dr. Arakhita Pradhan, Deputy Superintendent Archaeologist from the Archaeological Survey of India, whose expertise significantly enhanced the learning experience. The visit proved to be highly educational and left the students with a deeper appreciation for India’s ancient heritage.
