MEANING OF YOGA
The word Yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Yuj’, which means ‘to Join’, Unity or Oneness. This unity or joining is described in spiritual terms as the union of the individual consciousness with universal consciousness. The Basic meaning of Yoga is unity of Soul, Body, and Mind.
IMPORTANCE OF YOGA
Yoga plays an important role in our life and it also gives plenty of Health Benefits as it helps in reducing weight, control Blood Pressure, reduce Stress, and Depressions. Practicing Yoga helps in eliminating negative thoughts from the mind, which helps in improving the concentration power. It keeps the body physically fit, mind agile, and stress under control. The relaxation exercises in yoga regulates blood to all parts of your body and oxygenates the lungs.

Karma Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and Gayan Yoga.

- Yama (Self-control)

ADVICE BEFORE PERFORMING YOGA
- Your clothes should be able to stretch but not to be too loose or flowing.
- Perform on a “sticky” yoga mat.
- Do not eat any heavy meals t least three hours before the yoga practice.
- Drink as little as possible during the yoga practice and preferably not at all!
Every student in VDJS upto the middle school performs basic Yoga asanas early in the morning. Those who master the skill choose it as a sport and performs at higher levels. They start with participation in Inter-House competitions and move up to the national and international levels to represent the School. Yoga drill performed every year on the School Sports Day is a spectacular show to which everyone looks forward to the entire year.
